With miles of beaches, a vibrant downtown arts and culture scene, close proximity to the mountains and deserts, and a relaxed, accepting environment, San Diego is home to one of the largest recovery communities in California. If you don't have a car, that's okay. Within a 10-minute walk, you'll find coffee houses, restaurants, gyms, physicians and dentists, the Dharma Bum Temple, churches, the local library, dry cleaning, banks, and Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joe's, and Ralph's Grocery Store. Still within walking distance is Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in North America. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as one of the Great Places in America, it's filled with cultural treasures, the world famous San Diego Zoo, tennis and golf, architectural grandeur, extraordinary gardens, and 17 museums. From Balboa Park, downtown is right there with its picturesque harbor and many things to do, including taking a harbor cruise or catching a Major League Baseball game at Petco Park. And you're all set for 12-step meetings; there are over 100 per week within a 15-minute walk of the house. Want to travel a little farther, like to the beach? We're also fortunate to have public transportation linking us to the rest of the city.
Lots of Sober Fellowship
Recovery groups in area 12-step meetings love to fellowship and plan outings throughout San Diego, so you'll have plenty of company. Join in with barbecuing at the beach, hiking coastal trails, or strolling the shops and savoring the food in Old Town San Diego. You can also take a walk and discover the hidden footbridges of nearby Bankers Hill and Hillcrest or head a little farther to explore the rugged coastline and caves of Point Loma and La Jolla Shores. The activities are limitless.
